Champagne Thierry Bourmault

Located in Cuis, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, Champagne Thierry Bourmault produces elegant and sincere champagnes, where Premier Cru Chardonnay expresses itself with a polished freshness.
Aged in barrels, large oak vats, and chalk-rich soils, the cuvées reveal a precise and approachable style, rounder and more open than the taut profiles found further south on the Côte.

A family estate with deep roots

The story of Champagne Thierry Bourmault begins in Cuis, a flagship village of the Côte des Blancs. From the start, the Bourmault family cultivated vines there, gradually building, generation after generation, a domaine with a strong identity. Initially combining rural polyculture and a few rows of vines, the estate progressively focused on a solid foundation of Premier Cru Chardonnay, grown on the finest chalky slopes of the village.

In the 1990s, the estate took a decisive turn by returning to traditional tools: Champagne press, large oak vats, and barrels. This marked the beginning of a new chapter: one of a clearly defined house style, faithful to the family’s heritage yet open to a more personal and creative expression of the terroir.

Cuis, a unique expression of the Côte des Blancs

Cuis, a Premier Cru village, offers a softer and more ethereal interpretation of Chardonnay than the more austere crus of the southern Côte. Here, the chalk is close to the surface, but the slopes, exposure, and microclimates allow for natural ripeness without excess. The wines retain the finesse and minerality typical of the Côte des Blancs, with added suppleness and charm from an early age.

Today, the estate also owns Grand Cru Pinot Noir plots in the Montagne de Reims. However, although Meunier is grown in the Vallée de la Marne, it is not vinified: the estate focuses its expertise exclusively on Champagne’s two noble grape varieties, for stylistic coherence.

Between rediscovered tradition and a defined style

In the estate’s cellars, fermentations are partially carried out in large oak vats or 400 L Burgundy barrels, depending on the cuvée. The aim is not to impart woody notes, but to bring structure, polish, and roundness to the wines while preserving their original freshness. This balance between volume and tension is what defines the Bourmault style.

Each cuvée represents a different balance:

Silver Class: Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs, supple, clean, and approachable.

Extra Brut: more linear, taut, mineral — for lovers of purity.

Les Côtes aux Vents: a parcel-based 100% Chardonnay cuvée from old vines (1951), oak-aged, vintage, intense and distinguished.

William’s Prestige: Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs, powerful, vinous, and structured.

Rosé de Caroline: an elegant blend rosé based on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Grand Éclat: a meeting point cuvée, in a balanced and complete style.

Champagne Thierry Bourmault embodies an elegant, structured style — never flashy — rooted in its terroir and open to emotion. Table champagnes, cellar champagnes, and memory champagnes, to be shared with respect, not formality.
