The Terroir of Champagne Dérot-Delugny

At the gateway to the Champagne AOC, in the village of Crouttes-sur-Marne, the Dérot-Delugny estate has been cultivating a vineyard typical of the Vallée de la Marne for nearly a century. On well-exposed clay-limestone slopes, the vines stretch around the village in a preserved environment, ideal for optimal fruit ripeness.

This terroir, historically suited to Pinot Meunier, produces generous and fruit-driven champagnes while maintaining beautiful freshness. The estate also works with rarer grape varieties such as Pinot Gris Fromenteau to explore unexpected expressions of Champagne.

A Family Estate Rooted Since 1929

Champagne Dérot-Delugny is a family-run estate founded in 1929 by Philippe Dérot and Yvonne Delugny. Four generations have followed one another, consistently cultivating a spirit of independence and transmission.

Today, Laurent and Claire Dérot ensure the continuity of the estate while bringing fresh energy. The vineyard covers 13.5 hectares and follows a strong environmental approach, holding both High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) certifications.

The house proudly claims its status as Récoltant-Manipulant, mastering every step from vine growing to disgorgement. Their “Theory D” (for Dérot) reflects a simple philosophy: observe, understand and adapt to their environment in order to produce lively, balanced and sincere champagnes.

The Dérot-Delugny Style

Pinot Meunier truly feels at home here. The estate’s dominant grape variety, it is expressed in several cuvées in its purest form, such as “Milieu Naturel,” revealing its full aromatic generosity. The estate also grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir… as well as Pinot Gris Fromenteau, a rare Champagne grape featured in the cuvée “Retour en Avant.”

Vinification takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wines benefit from extended ageing on lees, sometimes for several years, before release. The estate favors long ageing to allow the wine to open naturally.

The house style is defined by straightforward, precise champagnes — often generous, yet always balanced — driven by beautiful fruit maturity. Cuvées such as “Binôme,” “Premier du Genre,” and “Bissextile” offer a personal and bold interpretation of the Vallée de la Marne.
