LE MESNIL SUR OGER - Côte des Blancs

Champagne Bernard Pertois

Bernard Pertois is the choice of a rare fidelity: that of Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

We chose this estate because it does not try to tell every story at once. It defends a simple, precise and powerful idea: to express Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs with integrity, patience and sincerity.

The family has cultivated vines for 10 generations, with a presence in the Côte des Blancs since 1650 and winemaking activity since 1910.

What sets Bernard Pertois apart in our catalogue is this ability to stay focused on what matters most: a great terroir, one grape variety, time in the cellar, and champagnes that are clear, elegant and accessible.

A House That Has Chosen Its Subject

Bernard Pertois does not give the impression of a domain chasing after every style. His focus is the Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger. The estate spans 15 hectares, with 7 hectares dedicated to Chardonnay, but the house makes a very clear choice: only the Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from Mesnil is vinified by the domain.

It is precisely this concentration that interests us. While some estates captivate with their diversity, Bernard Pertois convinces with his fidelity. It quickly becomes clear what one seeks here: a straight, fresh, and elegant expression of the Côte des Blancs.

Time as a Subtle Signature

In this house, time is not used as a spectacular argument but as a testament to craftsmanship. The Champagnes age for 4 to 5 years in the cellar before being offered for tasting.

This choice makes a significant difference in the glass. It allows the wines to gain balance, finesse, and delicacy without losing the natural freshness of the Chardonnay. It is a style we proudly uphold at Champagne Terroir: precise Champagnes, yet never cold; accessible, yet never simple.

Le Mesnil Without Unnecessary Display

The vines benefit from predominantly south, southeast, and east exposures, with light soils and a chalky subsoil. The estate explains that this combination imparts lightness, elegance, and freshness to the Chardonnay.

This identity is reflected in the cuvées: white Champagnes that are clear, refined, and exhibit the tension characteristic of the great Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs, yet always with true drinkability. Bernard Pertois deserves its place in our catalog because it offers a clear interpretation of Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru: serious, sincere, and easy to recommend to those who wish to discover Le Mesnil without delving into overly technical discourse.
