The terroir of Champagne Barthélémy-Pinot

Just a few kilometers from Épernay, the village of Moussy lies at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. On these rolling hillsides, clay-limestone soils provide the vines with a balanced terroir, combining fruit maturity with natural freshness.

The Barthélémy-Pinot estate covers around 2.5 hectares, mainly spread across Moussy, Vinay, and Saint-Martin-d’Ablois. This mosaic of plots allows the domaine to work with the three Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, predominant in this part of Champagne, Chardonnay, which brings finesse and tension, and Pinot Noir, more discreet but essential for structure.

A family estate for five generations

The history of Champagne Barthélémy-Pinot is one of patient family transmission, deeply rooted in its terroir. It all began with the purchase of the first vineyard by Paul Pinot’s grandfather. His son-in-law, Roland Barthélémy, then continued to develop the estate, gradually expanding the vineyard and strengthening the business.

Today, Laurent and Jérôme carry on this family legacy. Together, they continue the work started by their predecessors, with the same commitment to Champagne traditions and wine quality.

The estate is also engaged in an environmentally respectful approach, recognized since 2021 by dual certification: High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC).

The Barthélémy-Pinot style

The estate’s grape composition reflects the typical balance of the Vallée de la Marne: 50% Pinot Meunier, 40% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Noir.

Meunier brings suppleness and generosity to the blends, while Chardonnay adds freshness and elegance. Pinot Noir, as a complement, enhances the structure and body of the wines.

Barthélémy-Pinot champagnes favor a clear expression of fruit and a harmonious balance between roundness and freshness. Accessible and well-balanced cuvées, true to the convivial spirit of the Vallée de la Marne and the tradition of family-run Champagne houses.
