Champagne Bardiau

Bardiau Champagne is a family estate of 2.60 ha located in Verpillières sur Ource, in the south of the Côte des Bar.
This champagne family has been cultivating the vines for five generations. Jérémy Bardiau realized the singularity of his terroir in 2015 and started to vinify his grapes and create his own brand. This is how Champagne Bardiau was born, a modern Champagne House focused on excellence that values the diversity, quality and expression of its terroirs.
The vineyards of the estate, with their multiple terroirs, exposures and grape varieties, allow this artisan winemaker to produce wines of great complexity with an exceptional range of aromas.

An atypical terroir of Champagne

The estate's vineyard, with its diverse terroirs, exposures, and grape varieties, offers this artisan winemaker the opportunity to craft wines of great complexity and exceptional aromatic range.

A distinctive feature of the vineyard is that 75% of it is planted on a rare type of soil in Champagne. Originating from the Portlandian period, this highly calcareous soil brings finesse, aromatic complexity, and minerality to the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays—qualities few other terroirs can match.

The rest of the vineyard is planted on deeper, more clay-rich soils, which in turn lend roundness and generosity to the champagnes.

A responsible approach to viticulture

Champagne Bardiau practices sustainable farming to respect the environment and preserve the biodiversity of its vineyard. To this end, the estate favors natural and preventive methods, aiming not only to avoid the use of chemical inputs and fertilizers but also to allow the terroir to fully express itself.

As a result of these efforts, the estate has been awarded the "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne" certification.

A modern estate driven by excellence

To craft its champagnes, Domaine Bardiau selects only the finest grapes from old vines.

The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring that only healthy and fully ripe fruit is picked.

Part of the winemaking takes place in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for low-temperature fermentations that enhance elegance and finesse. The other part is vinified in oak barrels, which promote gentle micro-oxygenation, supporting natural evolution and adding great complexity to the champagnes.

Each parcel is vinified separately in order to respect the unique characteristics of every terroir. It is only at the blending stage that the estate decides whether or not to combine the different parcels.

Low dosage and extended aging on lees allow each cuvée to fully express the uniqueness of the terroirs from which it comes.
