Verpillières-sur-Ource - Côte des Bar

Champagne Bardiau

Here, each plot has its own story to tell.

Rather than seeking to standardise its wines, the estate chooses to respect the personality of each of its terroirs, up to the moment of the blend. This patient and precise approach relies on a vineyard with particularly varied soils, where the rare Portlandian limestone meets more clay-rich lands.

Elegant and balanced champagnes that primarily express the diversity of the vineyard from which they originate.

Let the terroirs speak before the blends

At Bardiau, everything begins with a simple conviction: each plot has its own identity.

Rather than erasing these differences, the estate chooses to preserve them. The grapes are vinified separately to respect the character of each terroir, and it is only during the blend that the desired balance is achieved.

This approach requires time, precision, and a perfect understanding of the vineyard.

A vineyard rich in contrasts

This diversity originates from the soils. A significant portion of the vines is planted on Portlandian limestone, a rare formation in Champagne that imparts finesse, tension, and mineral expression to both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Other plots rest on more clay-rich soils, offering greater roundness and generosity.

This complementarity is a true asset, allowing the estate to craft champagnes that are both complex and harmonious.

Precision found in the wines

This pursuit of precision naturally extends into the cellar. The old vines are hand-harvested, with a portion of the wines aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit's purity, while another part undergoes barrel ageing to add depth and complexity.

The low dosages and extended ageing allow the cuvées to achieve their balance over time.

The estate, committed to Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC), crafts champagnes that favour the elegant expression of terroir over mere showmanship.
