Champagne is not limited to the big brands that are distributed by champagne houses. On the contrary, by choosing a winegrower's champagne, you will find the best inexpensive champagne that you can order directly from the Champagne Terroir platform.

The main difference between the champagne of champagne houses and that of winegrowers is that the first is the result of the mixture of several grapes while the second comes from only a single grape. The other difference concerns the price: the best inexpensive champagne necessarily comes from winegrowers who do not have the promotion costs to assume.

By choosing from the selection of Champagne Terroir, you can orient yourself by targeting a very specific terroir.

A region suitable for growing vines

The Champagne region is located quite north of France, which allows it to obtain sufficient acidity. Its territory benefits from a climate where continental and oceanic influences are balanced.

The Champagne chalk has created a hillside vineyard whose slopes offer ideal conditions for cultivating vines. Its drainage properties facilitate the evacuation of any unnecessary humidity and, in dry weather, allow water to rise by capillary action. The roots of champagne vines have the particularity of concentrating on the first layer of soil and do not have to sink into the depths of the rock.

The great grape varieties of champagne

90% of the 33,868 hectares of the Champagne appellation are operated by independent winegrowers. Depending on your taste, you will turn to one of the terroirs represented by one of the winegrowers that Champagne Terroir has taken care to select for you.

Only three grape varieties are authorized in Champagne wines:

Pinot noir

Pinot noir occupies 38% of the planted area. It is mainly located on the cool limestone soils of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte de Bar. Pinot noir champagnes develop a marked structure and release aromas of red fruits.

Pinot Meunier

Pinot Meunier comes in second place tied with 31% of the planted vineyard. It occupies the more clayey soils of the Marne valley, whose climatic conditions it prefers, although they are harsher for the vines. This vigorous grape variety produces a supple and fruity champagne, much rounder.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay occupies the remaining 31% of the vineyard. It is well established in the Côte des Blancs and is the one that evolves the slowest, which makes it the ideal grape variety for aging wines. Its very characteristic champagne has aromas with floral and citrus notes.

The particularities of the taste of winemaker champagne

Winegrowers' champagne has the advantage of being the best inexpensive champagne because it has much more character than house champagnes which are obliged to have a consistent taste and which, in any case, are constrained by the blends.

Champagne houses use grapes from various areas while the winemaker only processes his own vines. Champagne Terroir offers excellent quality but inexpensive champagne from which you can select the origin. You therefore have much more choice and you can taste productions with much more personality.

Champagne Terroir has chosen to distribute the best inexpensive champagne by highlighting the value of our small producers who work in the shadow of the big houses. They express the characteristics of their own terroir and share their passion by making their production accessible to all.
