A legendary terroir, dedicated entirely to Chardonnay

The Lancelot-Royer estate draws its identity from the finest slopes of the Côte des Blancs. Its vineyards thrive in six renowned villages for Chardonnay: Cramant, Oger, Avize, and Chouilly, all classified Grand Cru, along with Cuis and Bisseuil, two characterful Premier Crus.

Cramant remains its heart and soul. This chalky terroir, with well-exposed slopes and natural drainage, gives rise to champagnes of remarkable finesse, tense, rounded, and generous.

All the estate’s cuvées are made exclusively from this noble grape variety, crafted with precision to express the mineral elegance and depth of great Blanc de blanc.

A family-owned house rooted in tradition

Founded in 1960 by Pierre Lancelot, the house was built on a clear vision: to produce terroir-driven Champagne that remains faithful to the identity of Cramant. The family transition continued smoothly in 1996, when his daughter Sylvie and her husband Michel Chauvet took over, expanding in particular the chalk cellar.

To this day, vinification is guided by simple, solid principles. The musts are transferred by gravity to tanks located deep within the cellar, without mechanical intervention. Reserve wines are aged in foudres and oak barrels, bringing structure and complexity to the blends. While some tools have evolved, the house preserves certain rare gestures such as disgorgement à la volée, still practiced for small batches.

A new generation with a fresh perspective

Since 2023, a new chapter has begun with the arrival of Édouard, the founder’s grandson, and his wife Marie. Their path was far from predictable. Both trained as aerospace engineers, they came to winegrowing later in life, almost by surprise.

But this earlier life, far from the vines, is now their strength. Their fresh outlook, scientific discipline, and curious spirit fuel a different approach to viticulture that is more analytical and more open-minded. Without betraying the family legacy, they bring new ideas, rethink the balance, and work to reinterpret a terroir that is as iconic as it is full of potential.

A style that is straight, precise, and unembellished

At Lancelot-Royer, the style is classic, understated, and expertly controlled. The champagnes express the chalky minerality of Cramant with subtlety and elegance. The core range is built around Brut cuvées, with Extra Brut reserved for special cuvées or vintages. There is no need for showmanship here. The champagnes are balanced, structured, and refined, made to shine at the table and to age with grace.

A discreet Grand Cru for lovers of pure style

Lancelot-Royer appeals to those who seek a faithful expression of Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, free from artifice or stylistic excess. Positioned in the mid-range price segment, these cuvées stand out for their consistency, elegance, and a certain ideal of classic Champagne, embraced with discretion.
