Served as a "vin d'honneur" with the meal or dessert, Champagne is the ideal drink for a successful wedding! How many bottles do you need per guest? What type of Champagne should be served and when? And how can you find a good, inexpensive Champagne for your wedding?

We'll try to answer all these questions!

How many bottles of Champagne do I need per guest ?

One Champenoise ( 75 cl bottle) will fill 6 to 7 flutes, but most of your guests won't be satisfied with just one glass!

Here are the average recommendations:

-For the "Vin d'honneur": 1 bottle for 4 people

-For the meal and dessert: 1 bottle for 5 to 6 people

Let's take the example of a wedding with 80 guests:

Vin d'honneur: 1/4 * 80 = 20 bottles

Meal and dessert: 1/6 * 80 = 14 bottles

Add at least 6 bottles for safety (breakage, etc.).

That's an average of 40 bottles!

What kind of Champagne to serve and when?

Now that you know how many bottles you need, let's talk about what type of Champagne to serve.

There's a Champagne for every occasion:

-Vin d'honneur: choose a brut blanc de blancs or a chardonnay-majority Champagne. These light, delicate champagnes will delight your guests and are a perfect introduction to the meal ahead.

-Meals: not many people know this, but champagne pairs well with meals. Champagne is a perfect choice for fish or white meat dishes! For the meal, choose a more powerful champagne, such as a Blanc de Noirs. And their fruitiness will also be perfect for dessert.

Please note: we recommend choosing different winemakers or houses for the "vin d'honneur", the meal and the dessert! The producers often specialize in a specific type of Champagne (Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, rosé...). For example, many Côte des Blancs winemakers produce wonderful Blancs de Blancs Champagnes, but their rosés are usually not as good!

How do you find a good, inexpensive wedding Champagne?

You can go straight for private labels in supermarkets, where bottles can be found for under 18 euros, but at that price, what can you expect? To answer this question, you need to know that these Champagnes cut corners on production (minimum ageing time, industrial production, etc.), often sacrificing quality at the same time.

You can also consider Champagnes from major houses, which are recognized all over the world for their quality! Unfortunately, the price is far from 18 euros a bottle. You're looking at between 30 and 45 euros a bottle.

Instead, choose Champagne producers. They're known for their excellent value for money! A bottle will cost you between 18€ and 20€.

Before you choose the Champagnes you want to serve at your wedding, you need to taste and compare them!
