A white champagne born on a land of black grapes.

A Blanc de Blancs crafted on a terroir known for black grape varieties — surprising indeed. And millésimé in 2017, a heterogeneous vintage in Champagne, this is an audacious choice from the Bérat Schenk family.

2017 was not an easy year: spring frost, disease pressure and uneven yields challenged many growers. Yet at Bérat Schenk, the Chardonnay held strong. Their balance and brightness convinced the family to produce a vintage cuvée.

After an initial vinification in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by a measured passage in oak barrels, the wine gained complexity without losing its natural tension. Aged six years on lees and finished Brut, this Blanc de Blancs now reveals a clear expression of Chardonnay from the Marne: vibrant, floral and structured.

A sincere and generous champagne, ideal as an aperitif or with delicate fish dishes. An excellent value for a grower’s vintage, shaped with patience and conviction.

Champagne Berat Schenk

Founded by the grandfather of the current owner, Roger Bérat, the House was established from family land. This family estate has kept its authenticity over the years.
Far from the image of the bigger Champagne Houses, Bérat-Schenk embodies the independent winegrower who contributes to the richness of the Champagne terroir and its traditions. They are amongst the rare winegrowers to still use traditional Champagne presses and oak barrels to age their harvests.
Now in the hands of Roger Bérat and his son Frédéric, the estate probably produces one of the best Blanc de noirs champagnes.
